Family
A nurse from Lima, a firefighter from Louisiana, and a grandmother whose name became a stage name.
Parents
Katerine Moner, her mother, was born in Lima, Peru, and works as a nurse. Patrick Moner, her father, was born in Louisiana and works as a firefighter. The household was bilingual — Spanish was Isabela's first language — and proudly Peruvian on her mother's side, a heritage she has embraced publicly throughout her career.
Brothers and the name
She is the middle child: older brother Jared and younger brother Gyovanni. In October 2019 she announced that she would perform as Isabela Merced rather than Isabela Moner, taking the name of her late grandmother, Yolanda Merced Salazar Pittman. Early credits (including her Nickelodeon work) therefore read “Moner” — same person, earlier name.
Background
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, homeschooled through Ohio Virtual Academy, and trained at the Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory, Merced's path into performance was formal from the start: Broadway at ten, then television, then film. The family's move between cultures — Peruvian and American, Spanish and English — is the thread that runs through both her acting and her music.
