Skating coaches, a Barney voice, and three musical sisters — the household that raised an actress.

Parents

Tim and Kathy Dever, Kaitlyn's parents, were both figure-skating instructors and coaches. Her father also briefly worked as a voice actor, including a short stint voicing Barney the Dinosaur. When Kaitlyn developed an interest in performing at a young age, her parents enrolled her in acting classes rather than steering her away from it — and later moved the family to support the career.

Sisters

Kaitlyn is the eldest of three sisters. Mady Dever, her younger sister, is her musical partner in the duo Devers (formerly Beulahbelle) and is also an actor. Jane Dever, the youngest, has worked behind the camera, including shooting and editing a music video for her sisters' duo.

The moves

The family path runs Phoenix, Arizona (where Kaitlyn was born) to Dallas, Texas — where she attended the Dallas Young Actors Studio and filmed commercials — and then to Los Angeles, where the acting career became full time. Music ran through all three cities: harmonising lessons from their father, and a household soundtrack that leaned toward direct, confessional songwriting.
